SafeFromScams has been alerted to a website that is using the identity and genuine company details of an established UK company without its authorisation.
The website is invent-and-invest.com. It should not be confused with the genuine company's website, inventandinvest.co.uk. The genuine INVENT AND INVEST has confirmed that invent-and-invest.com is not operated by, associated with or authorised by the company.
What invent-and-invest.com claims
The website presents itself as a UK investment firm based in Warrington. It says it works in financial markets, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, asset management, real estate, solar energy, private equity, and pharma and biotech. It claims "55M£+" in total assets, 20 years of experience and more than 60 satisfied clients, and it shows testimonials praising investment performance.
The problem is that it also displays genuine information belonging to a real UK company. Its pages show the company number 04253863 and the address 96a Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington, Cheshire, and its Team page names John Rowlinson as chief executive, with the email address j.rowlinson@invent-and-invest.com.
Those details belong to INVENT AND INVEST, a company registered at Companies House since 2001, and John Rowlinson is its genuine director. The genuine company says it has not authorised invent-and-invest.com to use its identity or its director's name, and it has published a fraud warning on its own website.
Emails ending @invent-and-invest.com
The website uses the email domain @invent-and-invest.com. The genuine INVENT AND INVEST has confirmed that it does not use this domain for any email address.
If you receive an email claiming to come from INVENT AND INVEST, or from John Rowlinson, and the address ends @invent-and-invest.com, you should not assume you are dealing with the genuine company.
A reported approach involving a property in Poland
The genuine company has told SafeFromScams about a particularly worrying incident. A man in Poland contacted it after apparently believing he had been dealing with representatives of INVENT AND INVEST over the proposed purchase of his property.
He reported that he had travelled to Rome believing he was going to meet John Rowlinson and another person about the deal. The genuine John Rowlinson had no involvement in the transaction and had not arranged any such meeting.
It shows why checking a company name, address or registration number on its own is not enough.

UK company information is public. Anyone can look up a company's registered name, company number, registered address, date of incorporation and the names of its directors, without having any connection to that company at all. Those details can then be copied onto a website, an email signature or a contract.
Someone who later checks Companies House will find a real company with exactly matching details, and may understandably conclude that the people contacting them must be genuine. They may not be. What matters is whether the website, email address and phone number actually belong to that company, and the only way to find out is to check independently.

The genuine website carries its own warning confirming that invent-and-invest.com, and email addresses ending @invent-and-invest.com, are not authorised by the company. You can check the company's record yourself on the Companies House register.
If you have been contacted by invent-and-invest.com
If someone has approached you using invent-and-invest.com or an @invent-and-invest.com email address, especially about an investment, a financial service or a property sale:
- Do not send money.
- Do not provide bank details, passports or other identity documents.
- Do not rely on the company details shown on their website.
- Do not travel to meet anyone until you have confirmed who they are through the genuine company.
Keep everything you have received: emails with their full headers, WhatsApp and other messages, phone numbers, the names people used, contracts and other documents, bank account and payment details, investment proposals, property details, and any travel or meeting arrangements.
If you have already paid money or shared bank details, contact your bank straight away. Then report the matter to the police or the national fraud reporting service in your country. In the UK, and for any regulated financial service, you can also check the FCA Register to see whether a firm is authorised to offer it.
Always check independently
Never verify an unexpected approach using contact details supplied by the person who approached you. Find the organisation yourself, through Companies House, the FCA Register or a search you carried out independently, and contact it using details you found on your own.
The key point: invent-and-invest.com is not the website of the genuine INVENT AND INVEST (company number 04253863). The genuine company's website is inventandinvest.co.uk. It has not authorised the use of its identity by invent-and-invest.com and does not use email addresses ending @invent-and-invest.com.
